Chlorophytum Comosum

Spider Plant (Airplane Plant)

Liliaceae

This plant comes from South Africa where it evolved roots that store water. It will tolerate hot dry conditions which makes it an ideal plant. It is well known for its spider babies.

Moisture - allow soil to dry between waterings

Light - medium light produces the best growth

Temperature - average to somewhat cool temps are best but it tolerates hotter temps in most cases

Fertilize - 3 times during the summer with a 10-10-10 solution

Pests - keep an eye out for mites and scale

Repotting - need to repot fairly frequently because the thick roots will fill a pot fast. use an average well drained mix

Propagation - seed or plantlets

Tips - a mass of plantlets indicates the need for repoting... tends to get brown leaf tips quickly when water stressed... best display is a hanging basket
